Join painter Nancy Campbell for a 10 day adventure in south-central Italy! From September 27 - October 7, 2013, "Discover Ciociaria" painting workshop will introduce guests to the mountainous landscape only 50 miles southeast of Rome. We'll paint in a vineyard, in the countryside, in intimate corners of ancient hilltop villages. "Ciociaria" (cho-cha-REE-ah) is the colloquial name of the region, a part of Lazio, named after the leather sandals once worn by the "contadini" or peasants, who populated this rugged land. Ciociaria, an area rich in history, with villages existing since 200 BC, was a strategic location where Roman legions guarded entrances to the Sacco and Aniene valleys. The wine the legions enjoyed, Cesanese del Piglio, is still produced on small family farms, and our guests will be treated to the annual celebration of the harvest during the "Sagra dell' Uva Cesanese," in Piglio. Included in your price is workshop, breakfast and dinner each day, and several lunches, transport to and from Rome's airport: $2450 per person, double room. www.halfmoonartstudio.com.
